Supporting and Celebrating Monarchs: From Michigan to Mexico (and back again)
University Center | Thursday, May 8 • 1pm
Instructor: Erin Parker • Science and Nature
Monarch butterflies spend their summers brightening our Michigan pollinator gardens before making a long-distance journey to Central Mexico where they overwinter in the mountains. Join Huron-Clinton Metroparks’ Erin Parker as we follow them on this journey, explore the threats they’re facing, and get ready to welcome them back to our Michigan gardens. Learn how to attract them, how scientists study them and how to help their dwindling populations.
About the Presenter: Erin Parker serves as the manager of two Metroparks Nature Center locations, but these duties only begin to describe her full-time devotion to the natural environment . . . even in her home life (Erin’s husband works for the Nature Conservancy). In her spare time, she breaks new trails on Isle Royal, living off the land as a hobby! Erin continues to be a steadfast and enlightening supporter of the MORE program, and this class promises to be one of her best ever!
